Leak Investigations & Inspections
Various methods or testing can help identidy potential weak points on a building. If the cause of water ingress isn't obvious, then more than one method of testing will be used and will result in a process of elimination. When working on more complicating cases, we always start with the lowest point of the area and work our way up. Please see below, some of the most effective methods of testing:

Membrane Integrity Testing - This method of testing, is usually carried out with use of specialist equipment that can read the thickness of the membrane and therefore alerting the operative of a potential breach in the roofing membrane. Although this is a great method for flat roofs, it will not be suitable for any leaks that may occur from areas above the roofing membrane.

Flood Testing - Flood Testing is a great method for larger flat areas. Dams and barriers can be constructed in attempt to divide the roof into smaller sections. Once the divided areas are made water-tight, water can be added to each bay and then segregated by the introduction of different coloured dye's. The areas should then be left to dwell and the internal leak point should be monitored closely, should any coloured dye appear.

Rainfall Simulation - For pitch roofs, brickwork, copings and all areas higher than the surface of the roofing membrane, this is a great method to identify potential weak points. Whilst having an operative creating the simulation of rain, another operative remains at the internal leak point. Both will closely monitor and communicate via radio's and confirm if water becomes visible from within.
